Archaeologist and anthropologist Katherine Routledge is a central figure in the Rapa Nui story. Backed by the British Association for the Advancement of Science, the British Museum and the Royal Geographical Society, she set sail with her husband on the sailing ship “Mana”, arriving in 1914. They established two camps, one in Mataveri and the other in the Rano Raraku , reaining until 1915.
